Industrial floor machines can also be used on linoleum to remove existing finishes remove scratches and nicely prepare a floor for refinishing but extreme care must be used not to burn through the color on the flooring. Loosen stuck tiles by carefully applying heat to the tile surface with a heat gun or a wallpaper steamer. Once the floor is leveled out with all the scratches gone and presenting all as the same uniform color the gloss needs to be. Use boiling or hot water to remove adhesive from a wood floor. Make sure that the existing floor covering and the subfloor and any possible underlayment are sturdy enough for the installation of the vinyl flooring. If it s a beautiful hardwood floor consider sanding the glue adhesive from the wood floor to keep it in the best condition possible. A glue gun can burn the wood if you are not careful. The old linoleum and adhesive paper can be removed from your wood floors however provided you take the time to get it all up.

Sturdy and solid. Scrape off the linoleum tiles with a handheld scraping tool or a long handled floor scraper. Discard all tiles as you remove them. Remove the adhesive residue by scraping with a handheld scraper.

Removing floor coverings helps the installer assess the condition of the subfloor. If you apply harsh chemicals or spend time scraping at the glue it may damage the wood. The key to keeping any floor in good shape is to keep it clean and sheet vinyl is no exception.
